The City of Yoakum, along with area organizations will be coordinating the 3rd cleanup day on Saturday, March 3, 2012. Local businesses and citizens are asked to contact City Hall at 293-6321 if they are interested in volunteering and/or disposing of ANY items. Regular household garbage, paint, and hazardous waste will not be accepted. No items will be picked up or accepted from outside the City limits of Yoakum. Calls will be received until Thursday, March 1st.
Vision Statement: Work to encourage a cleaner city with citizen and community involvement.
Responsibilities:
Volunteers and Clubs: * Promote and support program (Click HERE for Informational Flyer) * Provide labor and trucks, trailers, & other equipment to collect and transport debris * If volunteers want to remove debris/trash on private property, they should receive a right of entry and hold harmless agreement from property owners. A right of entry agreement is recommended, but not required – obtaining signatures for the purpose of entering someone’s property will be the responsibility of the volunteer, not the City. These forms will be provided by the City and distributed by request the morning of March 3rd. A copy of these signed agreements must be provided to the City of Yoakum.
City of Yoakum: * Provide coordination and disposal * Receive calls and maintain a list with type of material they are wishing to dispose of, and provide addresses to the volunteers. * Provide personnel at the Solid Waste Management Facility; keep the facility open to the volunteers and citizens from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM on dates of collection (anyone not volunteering must present their utility bill before they are given permission to dump) * Have City personnel stationed at the Solid Waste Management Facility to direct haulers as to where materials should be unloaded (separation is required for specific types of waste) * Provide and pay for disposal * Maintain a list of private haulers who may be interested in picking up appliances and provide them with addresses of individuals wishing to dispose of items
If there are certain areas of the community an organization would like to see cleaned up, they are encouraged to contact the property owners and ask if they need assistance in disposing of their items.
Maps, refreshments, volunteer passes, right of entry agreements, and further instructions will be provided the morning of March 3rd @ 8:00 a.m. at the Community Center (which will be the meeting place for volunteers).
Mark your calendars, and make plans to participate.
If there are any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact City Hall at 293-6321.
Community involvement is needed for this to be a success!
