Friends of the Carl and Mary Welhausen Library

The Friends of the Carl and Mary Welhausen Library is formed for charitable and educational purposes under section 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and organized to: promote the interests and welfare of the Carl and Mary Welhausen Library and to assist in carrying out its mission and achieving its goals; and engage and volunteer in fundraising, programs, services, and other activities that will promote the visibility of the Library and increase public awareness of its mission, function, programs, activities, and needs; and raise, receive, invest and distribute funds in the public interest of the Library.

This group of individuals is dedicated to supporting, advocating for, and advancing human knowledge through library services. We believe in the library and consider it a treasure in the Yoakum community that everyone should take advantage of. As a "friend", you have the honor of helping build the library and serve your community.

Ways you may get involved in serving your community through the library:
  • Your membership dues help support the growth of the library for your use;
  • You have the ability to volunteer your time and skills for various library events;
  • Donate your gently used books, games, puzzles, and craft supplies for the annual book sale and the "everyday" for sale shelves;
  • You are able to purchase tickets to attend the annual Friends of the Library Spring luncheon, which is a community-based event held every spring during National Library Week. This reception includes a meal and speaker/presentation. This is not a fundraiser, but a way that the community can come together to learn about the library and what is offered. Any monies collected for this event are simply to defray the actual cost of having the event;
  • Consider a tax-deductible gift to your library for a memorial or any use; and
  • Remember the library in your estate planning.
