Though tax rates are much lower in Yoakum than other communities, city services rival that of any metropolitan area. Supporting a fully funded police and fire/EMS department as well as a public works and utilities department, Yoakum officials strive to keep the city on the cutting edge of service provision.

City Council/Meetings and Agenda
City Council meetings are held at 6:00 P.M on the second Tuesday of each month in the Council Chambers behind City Hall at 808 Hwy 77A South. Agendas are posted at City Hall and on this site.
Healthcare Services
The Yoakum Community Hospital has served the town’s healthcare needs for over 70 Years. Recognized as a Level IV Basic Trauma Facility, Yoakum Community Hospital is housed in a new facility which opened in 1997. The hospital is managed through a contract with the Memorial-Hermann Healthcare System to our community. Medical and surgical nursing care is provided as well as obstetrics and emergency care. In addition, the facility has diagnostic imaging, laboratory, and physical therapy capabilities. The hospital operates an outpatient specialty clinic with visiting practitioners enabling Yoakum residents to obtain specialty care at home in our area. The Medical Staff of Yoakum Community Hospital is made up of nine Family Practitioners, two Nurse Practioners, one Physician Assistant, and one General Surgeon. Three medical clinics and several other private health services are located in the community.
Yoakum is home to two skilled nursing facilities. Stevens Nursing Home has 106 beds and offers an 18 bed secured certified Alzheimer wing. Yoakum Nursing & Rehabilitation has 110 beds and offers a secured unit of 14 beds. In addition to skilled nursing, these facilities offer services ranging from physical, occupational, and speech therapies to respiratory care.

- Sales Tax
A 6.25% state sales tax and a 2% city sales tax comprise Yoakum’s 8.25% rate. Texas is one of seven states that does not have an individual income tax.
