The City of Yoakum strives to keep the community inviting to all.  We need your help to make Yoakum a cleaner and more safe community for the citizens and visitors.  More often, the best way to solve the problem at hand is to become a part of the solution.  Each complaint/concern is of utmost importance to us, so anything that is brought to our attention is greatly appreciated.  Please do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns that you may have.
Grass, Weeds, Brush, Shrubbery:
High grass and weeds can become a fire hazard, as well as a breeding place for mosquitos and rodents.
High grass (above 12 inches), weeds (above 12 inches), and out of control shrubbery or trees (under 7 ft high & over 3 inches in diameter that are NOT cared for) are considered fire hazards and decrease property value.  The city has ordinances which prohibit such nuisances and failure to comply is a Class C Misdemeanor.
It shall be unlawful for any owner of any lot or parcel of land or portion thereof, occupied or unoccupied, improved or unimproved, to permit weeds or grass to grow to a height greater than twelve (12) inches upon premises; and to allow weeds, grass and trash to create a hazardous or unsafe condition that may interfere with passage on sidewalks, walkways, streets or public right-of-ways adjacent to the property.
These items are considered a nuisance, fire hazards, and decrease property value.  Failure to comply is a Class C Misdemeanor.

It shall be unlawful for any owner of any lot or parcel of land or portion thereof, occupied or unoccupied, improved or unimproved, to permit any junk, trash, debris, rubbish, or unused appliances to accumulate or be present upon any such lot or parcel of land; and to permit the storage of any such appliance.
Junked or Abandoned Motor Vehicles:
Failure to comply with the City Ordinances and other applicable laws and regulations may result in a fine, removal of vehicle, and/or a lien placed against the property.
It shall be unlawful for any person to park, store or leave or to permit the parking, storing or leaving of any licensed motor vehicle of any kind, or parts thereof, which is in a wrecked, junked or partially dismantled, inoperative, abandoned or discarded condition, in any place where it is visible from a public place or public right-of-way, within the city limits for a period of time in excess of ten (10) days.  Such vehicle or parts thereof can be completely enclosed within a building or storage area in connection with a used car or junk area, lawfully established pursuant to the zoning regulations of the City, and when not in violation of any other provision of this Code or other ordinance of the City, or when the motor vehicle is retained by the owner for antique purposes, or when the vehicle is a special interest vehicle and which is not a junked vehicle within the meaning of the Texas Litter Abatement Act.
